Protect your social network accounts!

According to the information received by the Electronic Security Service under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, mass cyber attacks are taking place on the accounts of social network users in our country. In one of the attack methods, cybercriminals use the “Forgot my password” notification to send “Reset Password” links to users’ mobile numbers and track their actions. When users share these links on social media, the password is changed using these links and the account is captured.

The Electronic Security Service urges our citizens to be especially careful in this sensitive period, to take the security of social network accounts seriously and to follow the following general rules without wasting time to protect their accounts:

Do not follow suspicious links!

One of the most common reasons for the seizure of social network accounts is that users fall into the “trap” of cybercriminals (phishing). – Cybercriminals use various social engineering methods to capture login information, making attractive promises to users and encouraging them to click on malicious links. A user who clicks on the link is redirected to a fake login page of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other social networks and enters his username and password.

– Such messages can appear on social media, be sent to your e-mail, and even come from your friends. Therefore, doubt the authenticity of each message.

Use strong and unique passwords!

Weak passwords are another of the most common reasons for hijacking social network accounts.

– Choose a unique password for each of your social network accounts, do not use it elsewhere and do not share it with other people.

– Create a strong password of 10-12 characters long using a combination of lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers and symbols.
